New Plymouth, New Zealand - Just Like Oregon, USA
As I approach my upcoming New Zealand trip, I find myself reminiscing about our last little adventure. Our travels led us from Cambridge on the North Island, South West to New Plymouth by way of Lake Taupo.
The imposing Mount Taranaki volcano and the quaintness of the seaside buildings, reminded us immediately of Oregon, USA.
It was like having Mt Hood and Cannon Beach all in one place. Of course, just add the super friendly New Zealander's and you have the perfect little get away.
The State Hotel, an absolutely gorgeous quaint boutique hotel on Devon Street right in the heart of New Plymouth was our home for the next two nights.

We found the perfect little Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant for dinner, Loving Hut, just down the street from the hotel. The food was not only fabulous but extremely reasonably priced which is my favourite kind!
Breakfast at Elixir Cafe was good but expensive. Yes, eating and drinking was somewhat a theme this trip!
Walking off our breakfast, we headed up the hill towards the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre for some artistic inspiration. The perfect morning for a writer, an artist and a photographer!

Always something to admire when you walk the streets of New Plymouth, many of the buildings have fantastic art on them. |
Just a little east on Devon Street, we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast at The Federal Store. One of our favourite spots. If I were a local, I think this would be a regular fave.

Our lovely friend took us for a coast drive. We climbed a giant rock (well I got half way), slid down a giant sand dune, walked along the beach with black sand, walked through a forest with giant trees and ended at a winery with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc overlooking the ocean.
