Teen Portrait Shoot - On Location, Preparation Is The Key!

Image
What I liked about this shoot was the planning and preparation on behalf of the client and I ( mostly the client ). I like being prepared but its not always possible with the craziness that is my life! We booked a date months in advance to take advantage of all of our busy schedules giving us time to prepare our vision for the final images. This included finding the perfect location and preparing a wardrobe and hairstyle ideas. When my usual location ideas did not match the clients expectations, I went on a quest to find the ideal place to shoot.  Luckily for me, I mentioned it to a few people and one of them came up with these glorious gardens. Stone pathways and steps, beautiful colour and best of all privacy. Now all we had to do was relax and take some great shots! TECH TALK... It was late afternoon so the sun made a lovely backlight as well as casting glorious colour.  As we were using the sun as backlight, we had to fill the for

Beautiful Portraits of a Young Woman-Fun Photo Fashion Shoot

Everyday that I shoot, it is a fun day for me because I simply love what I do. Today was a little more fun than usual because we got to play with various new lighting setups, some props and hair blowing which I don't normally use in my business portrait sessions or my swim photos! Dustyn is the Mackay representative for Lipsense Lip Colour as well as managing her own Youtube How-To Makeup  Channel so she knows how to apply a mean lipstick. The rest was up to us. Dustyn hasn't modeled before but I think that you'll agree that the camera really likes her. The following are completely unedited images. Swimmer Athlete Action Photography - NSW 2013 LC Qualifying Meet Highlights

Image
From 7 year olds last weekend at the Summer Sprints to the "big kids" at this NSW LC Qualifying Meet. The biggest difference.....SPLASH! Bigger and stronger, these guys make a mess of the pool.  The races are tighter so I have to try to shoot through the leg splash of the swimmer in the parallel lane to the one I'm aiming for then try to focus through their arm splash! A lot of dead images but still some good ones! What is cool about these guys is their experience and style makes them so beautiful to watch. So streamlined, flexible and powerful! More images are on my website. Just click here . See you at the District Championships!

The Worst Bushfires In A Decade - Sydney Bushfire Smoke Over Chatswood

Image
This is where I live. Chatswood.  Last night on my way home from a meeting, the wind changed direction and the smoke from over 100 burning bushfires smothered our town. Sydney Morning Herald touts that these are the "worst in more than a decade". my street      I woke this morning to find out that 34 of these fires are uncontained, out of control. Mother nature is MAD!  Possibly 100's of families have lost their homes and everything in or around them including pets and livestock. A devastating tragedy.  What makes me mad is that some of these fires were most likely caused by someone carelessly tossing a cigarette out of their car window...seriously. How stupid are these people?? Thankful for the cooler day today as I am certain all of our brave firefighters are too. I hope it is all under control very soon.    Here is how you can help:  Members of the public who wish to help are asked to do so via the Salvation Army

Jade, loyal and very smart support dog! These incredible dogs are selected, trained and then placed to work in support of people with physical disabilities. I happily volunteered to capture images of one of the dogs, Jade, demonstrating a few of the many tasks she performs daily.  You can find out more on the ASDOG website, click here .

Swim Action Photos - NSW Development Meet 2013 Highlights

Image
This was a terrific meet. Firstly, I loved watching the littlest kids swim. Secondly, this was the first meet where I had a second photographer. It was fabulous because it was like there were two of me. He was able to get shots that I cannot possible get because I have to be positioned ready to take the action photo. He got some some terrific behind the blocks images, so close that you can see the anxiety in the swimmers face! He also has a different eye to me so he got some angles that I hadn't thought of...awesome! I had the loan of the Canon 1D X and it was phenomenal in the low light. In addition, I had rented the 300mm fixed lens. A big heavy lens but it forced me to use my monopod which my physiotherapist was delighted about! It allowed me to get really close without loosing any sharpness. It takes a while to get used to but it is worth it. Sadly, my Canon 5D Mark II stopped working...ouch! I was unable to take the presentation photos whic
