What a fabulous family and wonderful children, each with their unique outstanding personality made for a fun afternoon of  shooting.


This family have an avid appreciation of photography so I had to keep on my toes and come up with some different ideas as well as add in a few more traditional ones.


Clearly at ease with each other, the family fell into poses very naturally. I suppose because we were in their home, this added to their comfort.

Pet Photography - Product Photography

I am well aware of the old adage, never work with children or pets but I find the challenge they present, half the fun! What's a little Hedgehog poop among friends... Puppies are like children in that they grow up so fast. Their features and expressions alter as they mature. As with children, I recommend that you take as many images as possible to record this evolution. The pet can be a little nervous on set at first so a little coercion helps. After the pet has a little sniff around, I give them a tasty treat. Once I get a few photo's on the card, I give them another treat and a break. They end up quite enjoying the experience. In fact sometimes, they do not want to leave! Combining pets with product photography provides an extra challenge. Portrait of a Pianist

Yesterday, I re-created this stage-like shot with my alien bees. We were actually in the living room where James Blackburn gives his lessons. Behind him were two full length windows and a bookcase that I had to drop out. I used two lights. I had a third set-up with a snoot for the face but decided against it. This was a lot of fun!

How To Setup a Remote Triggered Photo Booth

These are the most fun shoots! Even better than an actual booth because you get to use awesome equipment and hang out with fun people! To setup my Photo Booth, I used the following gear: Canon 1D X ProFoto B1 Octabox with grid 3 x Pocket Wizard Plus II's 1  x Flash Sync Cable 1 x Remote cable Lightstand Tripod 32GB Memory Card 1. LIGHTS - I setup my light or lights, depending on the scope of the backdrop and the look I am going for. I have previously used my Alien Bee Strobes and more recently, Profoto B1's. You could probably use Speedlites too. I've just never found them reliable or battery efficient besides, the quality of light from the Profoto or even the Bees, is infinitely better. Besides which, you would need two to get the job done nicely. 2. TRIPOD - I setup my camera onto a Tripod. A good sturdy tripod is useful, especially if there is going to be alcohol at the venue! 3. Anzac Day 2012 - Lest We Forget

For my international friends, ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. When our troops landed on the beach in Gallipoli on this day in 1915,  an astonishing number of our soldiers lost their lives. The Allied death toll for this tragic campaign was over 44,000 and so it soon became our national day of remembrance. For all those who have sacrificed in the name of peace, we thank you!  Along with the marching soldiers come the many wonderful and colourful bands. Many of our schools perform in the ceremony including bands from both my boys schools, Marist College and Knox. My Son's School Band. As each group passes the War Memorial, they lower their instruments and signs and all eyes are left in respect. Beautiful Teen Girl Portrait- Funny Faces-Too Much Fun!

After a few hours of shooting, set changes, outfit and hairstyle changes, we decided to blow off some steam. Just in the casual shirt she came in, Shelly sat for some fun natural shots. We were trying to get the fan going to blow back her hair but it was a mess and we just ended up laughing. The real fun started when Shelly began pulling some amazing expressions. It strikes me how beautiful she remained even when she contorted her face so!

Tween Portrait Session

What to do with a Tween boy? Not too much actually. Little James was brilliant at having his own fun. His mother had prepared him well and he was relaxed and completely comfortable in front of the camera - the perfect subject! Rather, it was I who experienced difficulties. Of the technical kind, that is. I had tested my lights the day before and they had worked well. A tricky setup where I am sending my USA lights through a converter and battery pack but apparently I had blown a fuse and didn't realise it. However, we managed to make it work.

Summer Swim Action - Duel In The Pool

Everyone got into the spirit for the inaugural SMNE Duel In The Pool Meet. Hosted by Knox at Pymble Ladies College pool, each team chose a theme. Disco, Smurfs, Rockstars, Hawaiians and Wizards abound. Even the coaches came dressed up! Despite the miserable weather the swimmers had a blast!  First up was the Mixed Up Relay. Each swimmer drew a card with their stroke order on it. Each race started with the backstroke but a Breastroker could then be racing a Flyer so you don't know who is going to win the race until the very end...the kids LOVED it! All of the following races were mixed so that the girls and boys raced together.. The teams collected points along the way and after each progress announcement, you could hear the whispers, we need to win another few races..etc. Such great team building. There was loads of yelling from the stands too..good job parents and grandparents.   Can't wait for the next meet! Smurfs help with timing!     C...
